Introducing Scriptura
I’m excited to share some meaningful updates to the Discord Bible bot many of you have been using and supporting. What started as a small personal project has grown into something I’m genuinely thankful for—and with that growth comes a few important changes.
From BibleBot to Scriptura
The first big change is the name.
BibleBot is now Scriptura.
The new name better reflects the heart of the project: making Scripture accessible, shareable, and central to our conversations. “Scriptura” emphasizes the Word itself rather than the tool, which aligns much more closely with why I built this bot in the first place.
You may still see references to BibleBot in older commits or discussions, but going forward, Scriptura is the official name.
A New Website and Documentation
Along with the rename, Scriptura now has a dedicated website and documentation hub:
The new site includes:
- Clear getting-started guides
- Command documentation
- Privacy and terms pages
- Self-hosting instructions
- Ongoing updates as new features are added
My goal with the docs is to make Scriptura easy to use for everyone—whether you’re just adding it to a server or looking to run your own instance.
Expanded Bible Translation Support
Scriptura now supports more Bible translations than before, giving users greater flexibility when reading and sharing Scripture.
Currently supported translations include (and this list will continue to grow):
- ESV
- NIV
- NLT
- CSB
- KJV
- NKJV
- And many more (also in other langauges!)
If you don’t specify a translation, Scriptura defaults to ESV. You can also save a preferred translation so you don’t have to specify it every time.
What’s Coming Next
Scriptura is still actively being developed, and there’s more on the way. Some upcoming features and ideas include:
- Additional Bible translations
- Enhanced daily verse functionality
- Audio Bibles in voice channels
- Additional Bible study tools
As always, feedback and suggestions are welcome. Scriptura is open source, and I’m grateful for everyone who contributes, reports issues, or simply uses the bot to share God’s Word.
Thank You
Thank you to everyone who has used Scriptura, shared it with friends, or supported its development. My prayer is that this project continues to be a small but meaningful tool that helps point people to Scripture in everyday conversations.
Soli Deo Gloria.
